Waiward Steel has supplied hundreds of thousands of tons of steelwork to major projects in the petro-chemical industry such as Suncor’s 45,000 ton Millennium Project, Shell Canada’s 26,000 ton Jackpine Project, Opti Canada’s 12,000 ton Long lake Project to name just a few. Our involvement includes material procurement, detailing, fabrication, shop painting, shop fireproofing and erection.

Mining and Extraction
Heavy plate-work, conveyors, and structural steel for tar sands crushers have been a staple of Waiward’s business for many years. We have supplied and installed thousands of tons of steel to Krupp Canada for crushing stations and surge bins at Syncrude, Suncor, CNRL, and Shell.
Other mining projects include a 700 ton head frame for the Red Lake Gold
Mine in Northern Ontario, 62 ton Coal Haulers for Wajax and 4,500 tons of
steel supplied to the Healy Clean Coal project in Alaska, USA.

Hydrogen Plants
Waiward Steel has supplied steelwork for five hydrogen plants in Alberta for Technip USA.
Hydrogen plants consist of more than 1500 tons of steel, and are used to supply hydrogen to the Oil Sands for the purposes of refining the crude oil into value added products such as gas and diesel fuel.
Hydrogen plants are complex structures combining stick and modular steel
with complex plate work and rolled steel. By incorporating the ingenuity and experience abundant at Waiward we are able to detail, fabricate, and shop insulate the steelwork for these challenging and intricate structures.

Power Plants
Waiward Steel detailed, supplied and installed 8,000 tons of structural steel for Epcor’s Genesee 3 Coal Fired Power Plant in 2002-2003, followed by a contract to erect another 8,000 tons of steel work for the Keephills 3 Coal fired Power plant in 2008-09. The 21 meter long by 5 meter deep top girders for these plants weigh approximately 50 tonnes each.
