PROJECT BACKGROUND

Shell needed to partner with a company that had the resources to adapt to changes in project scope and schedule. In fact, over the course of the project, the scope grew by approximately 60% from 18,000 tonnes to 29,000 tonnes.

STRATEGY

Like with many of our other projects, Waiward was involved early in the process in order to identify possible efficiencies that could be made to the design. After an in-depth analysis of client standards and specifications, Waiward’s engineering and construction experts identified changes in materials and designs of the miscellaneous steel that would reduce costs and improve the project. In order to address the substantial increase in scope, Waiward used its longstanding relationships to subcontract and manage steel fabricators from coast to coast, handling the logistics required to procure the needed materials in a short period of time, all while maintaining quality control.

RESULTS & VALUE

Even though the scope increased—pressing the demand for volume and schedule— Waiward as a single source for Shell, maintained the unit rates established at the outset of the contract. In addition, Waiward’s materials and design changes saved its client an estimated $3 million. Waiward’s expert engineering and construction crews plan every detail of your project in order to mitigate risks, optimize your designs and anticipate challenges and scope requirements. Because of our experience and processes, we were able to give our client an outstanding final product.
